Protein Hot Chocolate

The best of all words: chocolate, protein, and a warm drink. Here is a hot chocolate recipe for you that is highly customizable to your personal taste. Feel free to play around with the spices and the sweetness.

This protein hot chocolate is a delicious snack or mini-meal to add to your fall and winter routine. Packed with easily-digestible protein made from grass-fed beef isolate from Equip foods, free from added sugars or ultraprocessed ingredients, and packed with antioxidant-rich polyphenols and minerals of cocoa, this hot chocolate will leave you feeling energized and focused! And very uplifted in my personal experience. :)

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving

  • 8 ounces milk of choice (I use organic unsweetened soy)

  • 1 TBS cocoa powder

  • Up to 1 full scoop unflavored Protein powder (I love Equip Prime Protein - use my code DRSAVANNAHBUKANT for first order 15% discount)

  • 1 TBS maple syrup (more or less to taste)

  • 1-2 tsp coconut oil

  • 1 tsp maca powder (optional)

  • Splash of vanilla extract

  • Dash of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and/or cardamom

  • Dash of sea salt

Using an electric frother:

  1. Add the liquid ingredients to the frother (milk, vanilla extract, coconut oil, and maple syrup)

  2. Turn on the frother to begin mixing

  3. Slowly add in your dry ingredients one at a time and froth until it reaches your desired temperature

Using a blender and stove top

  1. Set up your high speed blender. Add your wet ingredients first, followed by your dry ingredients

  2. Mix on high for 1-2 minutes until the consistency is smooth

  3. Pour the mixture into a small or medium saucepan and heat on medium, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired temperature

Pour the hot chocolate into your mug of choice. Add marshmallows (optional but highly recommended) and enjoy!
